Evas came to us asking for technical development support on a design they already had. In the first meeting, it became clear that what they actually had was an idea — not yet a product, and not yet a strategy.
We rebuilt the brief from there. By listening to real users alongside Evas, we defined the actual design requirements together, and turned a vague concept into a product family that solved a genuine everyday problem while resolving every design and engineering issue standing in its way. Both the industrial design and the engineering design were carried out entirely by BerkanKaplanDesign.
The starting point was almost embarrassingly simple: nobody knows their gas level until the moment it runs out. We built the entire strategy around solving that one blind spot — connecting the cylinder to the user's phone, adding a physical indicator for anyone without the app, and closing the loop with a system that could let users reorder before they ever ran dry.
Because Evas operates under strict regulatory limits for LPG hardware, the process moved through far more revisions than a clean, single-brief project would have. New requirements surfaced throughout, and we adapted the design at every stage rather than defending an early concept that no longer fit reality.
Idea
Evasmart Cylinder exists to inform its user before the gas runs out — through IoT connection and a dedicated physical indicator, whichever the user has access to. It sends a message before empty, and can even request permission to order a replacement automatically.
The lightweight shield and base were designed to make the cylinder easier to carry day to day, not just smarter to monitor — solving an everyday physical problem alongside the digital one.
Form
Most gas cylinders are designed to be hidden. Evasmart was designed to be shown. A strong plastic shield lightens the visual weight of the sheet metal body while integrating ergonomic handles that double as protection for the valve — sleek where most cylinders are utilitarian.
The base, mainly a protective stand, houses the sensors and electrical architecture without disrupting the cylinder's silhouette. For maintenance, the display was deliberately designed to be detachable, in harmony with the rest of the form rather than bolted on as an afterthought.
Function
The lightweight body, supported by plastic structure top and bottom, makes everyday handling genuinely easier. The integrated handles provide ergonomic grip while shielding the valve at the same time — one part doing two jobs.
Embedded technology lets the user check gas level instantly, either through an app or the attached display, and warns them before the cylinder runs fully empty — turning a guessing game into a notification.
Differentiation
Reshaping the gas cylinder itself isn't new in design. What's new is doing it with a genuinely user-centric strategy — lightweight construction, strong structural support, easy maintenance, and color-based brand differentiation, all serving the brand's commercial needs and the end user's daily experience at once.
The detachable display and digital connection gave Evas something most LPG brands in the category didn't have: a real answer to the single most common complaint in the category — running out without warning.
Impact
In production since 2020, sold across international markets. A multi-piece design lets brands apply their own color identity early in production, and lets damaged parts be replaced individually instead of discarding the entire cylinder — extending the product's working life across multiple configurations.
What started as a request for technical support became a complete product strategy — and a category-level answer to a problem every LPG user has lived with.
The hardest part of this project wasn't designing the smart features — it was navigating LPG hardware's strict regulatory limits while a clean, single-brief process kept expanding into something far more iterative. Requirements changed mid-project more than once, and each change meant re-validating decisions we'd already made.
Rather than defending an early concept, we treated every new requirement as information and rebuilt around it. That discipline — staying flexible without losing the core idea — is what eventually produced a product genuinely well received in its category, instead of one that simply checked the original brief's boxes.
Evasmart Cylinder has been in production since 2020 and sells across international markets. It turned a one-line request for technical support into a fully engineered product family — designed, validated, and brought to market entirely by BerkanKaplanDesign.
